The International Colloquium on Magnetic Films and Surfaces (ICMFS) was once again returning to Germany. Already celebrating its 20^th gathering, ICMFS 2009 was held in Berlin from July 20^th - 24^th, 2009.

The colloquium took place on the premises of Berlin's Freie Universitat in Dahlem, a location long renown for its scientific excellence. 394 participants discussed 369 contributions (18 invited talks, 40 contributed talks, as well as a total of 311 posters in four sessions).
